Clipsmith

Terms of service

Last updated 2 November 2026

These terms govern your use of the Clipsmith desktop application and the clipsmith.net website (together, “Clipsmith”). Clipsmith is an independent project provided by a single developer (“we”, “us”). By installing or using Clipsmith you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use it.

1. What Clipsmith is

Clipsmith is software you install and run on your own computer. It transcribes video, cuts it into vertical short-form clips, and — if you choose to connect your own accounts — publishes those clips to YouTube and TikTok on your instruction. We operate no service on your behalf and store none of your data; see the privacy policy.

2. Your account connections

Connecting a YouTube channel or TikTok account is optional and entirely under your control. You may disconnect at any time inside the app, or revoke access directly with Google or TikTok. You are responsible for keeping access to your own computer secure, since that is where your tokens are stored.

Your use of those platforms through Clipsmith remains subject to their own rules, including the YouTube Terms of Service and the TikTok Terms of Service. Where those terms and these ones differ about what you may post to a platform, theirs govern.

3. Your content, and your responsibility for it

You keep all rights in the videos you process and the clips you produce. We claim no licence to any of it, and could not exercise one if we did, because we never receive it.

You are solely responsible for having the right to use every video you put into Clipsmith, and for everything you publish from it. You agree not to use Clipsmith to:

Clipsmith’s ability to download from a URL is a convenience for material you are entitled to use. It is not permission to use anything else, and using it otherwise is a breach of these terms.

4. Availability and third-party platforms

Clipsmith depends on APIs operated by Google and TikTok. Those platforms may change, restrict, rate-limit or withdraw their APIs at any time, may impose quotas on uploads, and may restrict the visibility of uploads from an application they have not audited. We do not control any of that and cannot guarantee that publishing will keep working, or that a published clip will be public, reach anyone, or remain available.

5. No warranty

Clipsmith is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy of transcription, and non-infringement. Automatic transcription, framing and drafted captions are imperfect by nature. Review what the software produces before you publish it.

6. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, nor for lost revenue, lost views, lost data, corrupted or deleted files, or any suspension, restriction or termination of your account on any platform, arising from your use of Clipsmith. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us for Clipsmith, which for the current release is zero.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death, personal injury, fraud, or gross negligence. If you are a consumer in the EEA, your statutory rights are unaffected.

7. Licence

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, revocable licence to install and use Clipsmith for your own purposes, including commercial ones. You may not resell it, present it as your own product, or remove its attribution. Where a component of Clipsmith is distributed under its own open-source licence, that licence governs that component.

8. Changes and termination

We may change these terms; the date at the top of this page will change with them, and continuing to use Clipsmith after a change means you accept it. You may stop using Clipsmith at any time by uninstalling it. We may stop distributing or supporting Clipsmith at any time, which does not affect the copy already installed on your computer.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the country in which the operator is established, which is a member of the European Economic Area, and disputes fall to the courts of that country. This does not affect any right you have as a consumer to bring a claim in your own country of residence, nor any mandatory protection of the law that applies where you live.
